I don't believe making ethanol actually uses up many acres. Crops got changed. Land that was used for alfalfa and soybeans got planted to corn.
Ethanol is somewhat of a byproduct. Protein is the product. Distillers grains replace the protein from alfalfa and soy. Corn stalks & low quality hay are used in feed lot rations. Not nearly as much corn silage is used. You need to consider the whole picture, not bits and pieces of it.
