SW MN
My Brother is a project engineer installing solar farms. He mentioned that the environmental impact on deserts is much more severe than on other parts of the country- ie desert tortoise habitat, also the land takes a lot longer to heal from any traffic/impact. Environmental impact statements hinder solar developments in deserts or unused areas- think environmentalist lawsuits keeping a project from being started. Finally, need to be next to major power lines to efficiently transport the electricity- best to be close to where electric is being used.
Long story short- it seems easy to put solar in desert, but are a number of hurdles in the details.
