I do the same thing you do here but just on winter & summer annuals and no supplement
Just wondering what type grass, and what were they eating before turnout and did they gain anything on that.
I would like to try what you are doing on fescue in the future And that is encourage me to go with smaller paddock.

I believe they gained 1.56 lb/day in the winter from purchase to turnout, maybe 2 weeks of that when it got nice out in late feb. early march i turned them out on what stockpile fescue i had left and supplemented a bit of hay with that. Before turnout in the lot they were just on average fescue/orchardgrass and the same 1% of their bodyweight in corn gluten. All heifers bought at an avg. of 354 lb. biggest group i brought in was 4 hd mostly singles otherwise. Most on here would probably refer to them as junk cattle commingled like that but they do pretty well on full feed i keep back a few each batch of calves to feed out for my freezer beef business
