NE WI | All new refrigerators are junk. You are running on borrowed time the day after the warranty is up. How can they be energy star compliant if they are in the landfill after 5 years boggles the mind. They need to take into consideration lifespan then rate them.
If your old fridge is just low on R134a buy a piercing valve and put some in. Add an ounce or 2 and monitor performance. It’s easy to overcharge.

I have fixed my moms GE Profile 3 times for major breakdowns in 12 years. First one was a few days past warranty and GE told us to pound sand. The major failures were 2 compressor controllers which are actually a VFD and one main control board I suspect relays went bad on. Not to mention 2 water valves that went bad.
Best option for replacement is to buy a bare bones fridge and then put a chest freezer in the garage.
