SW Ontario | I am going through the exact process with a milling machine I just picked up.
I have a 5hp 600V motor sitting on the shelf that I plan to build a rotary phase converter with once I pick up a transformer from 240 to 600.
If variable speed is not part of the drill, you might use a VFD instead but it will have to work with single phase input and be rated roughly 2x the drill press hp, although a 5hp drive would likely be sufficient unless you plan to do a lot of heavy drilling. You will still need the transformer anyways.
In my case, the mill already has variable speed and I had the idler motor on the shelf, so I am going the RPC route. | |
