So true. Most including myself don’t know what we are looking at. We want maternal but focus too much on terminal traits. We need to know what our ideal cow looks like and know how to spot the male version of that. Pedigrees and cow families should be our guide not so much with the numbers part.
Numbers are important - - - - I wouldn't want to be without them but I really like looking at the bulls momma.
If I don't like the way she is put together or she weighs 1600# + - - - - next!
(unless of course she's weaning 900# + calves 80% or more of the time - - - then maybe but I would still have a hard time buying such a bull - - - - I just don't want my girls that big!)
