central mo | What you're talking about, I believe, is changing "Parent/Child Folder Views".
Although I'm not aware of a way to automatically replicate a folder view setting down from parent directories to child directories, I do know that as long as you have the "Remember Each Folder View Setting" button checked, once you change a folders view one time, Windows will then always open that same folder using that same view everytime.
First,
verify that "remember each folder view setting" is checked in your Tools>Folder Options>View tab menu
browse to your folder of choice which you would like to change view and change the view.
You should now be able to leave the directory, or even reboot the machine and that same view will be default the next time you access the directory.
