The freezing temps did a number on my oats and ryegrass that we graze,I’m anxious to see how it comes back.
Quite a difference before and after

Do you have much problem with off-flavors in your milk while grazing small grains? I've had a volunteer small-grain show up here in the springtime, and the cows love it. I almost can't stomach the taste of the milk during that time, though. I've heard from others that this issue exists with any fresh small-grain forage.

These are forage oats and the ryegrass is the Oregon grown grass seed, not the cereal grain rye.
I plant usually in late September or early October and hope to graze from October to May,I’ve never notice an off flavor from it and I drink lots of milk.Summer months are tough to get any milk production because of the heat,we count on the winter grazing for the bulk of our milk production, breed cows to calve in late fall so peak production is February-March with cool weather sand green grass to eat.
Not 10° cool weather but “cool” weather, haha.
