If your not doing lime I would not grid sample. Doing grids is assuming as much or more than zones and it costs more and your throwing out everything you already know about your fields "zones".

The most data doesn't automatically mean it's good data or that it's more usable to you. I dont believe in dictating a certain number of acres in zones either, but however you do zones do that process consistently. I make lots of zones but I very selectively sample a few of them. Then if your going to do h3a or whatever else, I would do them at the same locations. I belive you need both not just a h3a by itself. Probably tissue as well being at the yield environment you indicated.

I would do everything by georeferenced zones every time you step in the field.
