| We have a farm is Scott County, Iowa. My Great Grandfather was born on that farm in 1860. Between 1860 and 1865 they moved away and another family moved on. Thusly my Great Grandmother was born on the farm in 1865. The log cabin they both were born in now is in place at Walnut Grove Park in Scott County.
The fact that it was a log cabin was lost until the 1940's or 50's when the tenant moved his oil stove and tried to drill through an outside wall, it was 10 or 12" of solid wood. I was in it at least once and the stair well was very narrow and had two bends. I aske how they got a bed up there and was told that the upstairs windows opened wide.
