I think online takes the personality out of it. I have watched one local large land buyer walk into sales and people don't bid because they know he is going to buy it if he shows up. I hate going to a sale because you usually have 3 or 4 bidders and 100 rubber neckers who want to have the story straight for the coffee shop and then an auctioneer who wants to drag out the sale of 3 tracts for 2 or 3 hours. You have people getting bidder numbers when you know there is no way they will even raise their hand, it's an ego thing I guess.
Have never let who shows up @ the auction effect what am going to pay. Either am going to buy it no matter what it brings or have the price decided ahead of time what limit is going to be.
