corn planted into 12 inch rye.

all treatments have same rate of nitrogen at 150 lbs N per acre. forms and placement differ. Replicated 8 row plots.

no cover crop, fall ammonia- 220 bushels
cover crop, fall amonnia -220 bushels
cover crop, fall ammonia + 50 lbs N as 2x2-240 bushels
cover crop, 50 lbs fall ammonia + 100 lbs N as urea + AMS - 240 bushels

two on farm tests showed similar response to plot study.

dry summer, I think the substitute recharge was greater in the cover crop creating the yield advantage.


 Thanks Scott for posting. It would be interesting if you would have tested the kernel weight ( kernels per bu), to figure what part of the yield increase  came from ( kernels/ acre, kernel weight or combination of both ).
