Subject: RE: corn after cereal rye

You said all were 150 lbs. Was the fall ammonia reduced 50# where the 2 x2 was applied or was there a boost because of the amount of N not necessarily placement? Was the ammonia placement a strip tillage pass and planted directly over? Was Urea and AMS surface applied?

I know placement of different sources and rates of N can all effect final yield, and what is best one year may not be next year.

I place 23 gallons 32% uan in spring strips into 6”-13” rye and plant directly over using pop-up as well. I don’t feel cereal rye has ever hurt my yield if the N is placed in strip. One year I had one pass with strip at ran out of UAN. Everything the same except came back prior to emergence and sprayed 28 gallons over top. Late side dress with Hagie NTB was the same. Yield was significantly (20 bu?)less where N was sprayed over top even with a 17 lb. increase. I don’t know how much N was lost from volatilization going over rye. Placement, availability, and timing matter.
