My place of work has done many studies on snow cover and frost depth. I hear snow has a 1 r value per inch. So a foot of snow is r12 .... They found sun does plat a roll too. Bright sunny days vs cloudy. They put a foot of snow under a large cattle shade area and found that had a couple more inches of frost depth.
Will ground freeze hard with snow cover?
