Subject: RE: Twin row corn and sunflower

McCanna, ND
Where I’m located we plant mainly 80-84 day RM corn, but 77-87RM is common as well. I plan for 6Bu for every 1K seeds. At 27k plant pop that would be 162Bu/ac on a “normal” year. However, I have been as high as 9Bu/1k plants which would be 243Bu/ac.

Harry Stine has bred and did trials with high population corn (60-80k/ac) and didn’t get enough yield out of it to pay for the extra seed cost that would be double the cost of a normal planting rate.
