DDR is a type of memory and DDR2 is faster.  Then there are later developments that are faster still.  You cannot mix the different types of memory.

I wish I had posted this earlier, before I gave it back to him.  Your question reminded me of my spare parts.

Yes, all he wanted was to be able to run Google Earth.  However it wouldn't run.  And there was no repair Google Earth file.  When I copied an old install from another computer it wouldn't run either as there was a missing dll file.  I was also certain there had to be something else wrong as slow as it ran.  Hence all the extra steps.

And, no I didn't understand either.
