Sorry for posting a new post but adding on seemed unlikely to answer some questions.
I got Google Earth to work.
Google Maps, so far as I can tell does the same thing. I was able to look at the coliseum in Rome, the acropolis in Greece, and Trafalgar Square in London using Google Maps.
Maps on his computer worked better and faster.
I downloaded Glary utilities and cleaned the registry, stopped some programs from starting, did a disk clean.
Used iObit unistaller to remove the original Google Earth and a couple of browser helpers.
downloaded Auslogic defrag program and found massive fragmentation which it cleared.
Ran window tools on the drive to fix and recover bad sectors on the hard drive
downloaded new version of Google Earth and installed it
I downloaded SP1 and installed it. It had SP1 it said but this final thing changed some things, it took all night to accomplish this last thing.
I talked to the owner and he confirmed that the computer has always been this slow. I found 2 GB of memory for his computer for $19 but he said he didn't need a fancy fast computer.
I gave it back to him.
