Subject: Re: Raven 661 and EZ boom

Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn.
As you can see KRK has made a custom harness for this situation. With EZ-Boom, the Ag Leader Insight with Direct Command and others require a rerouting of the wiring as this cable does.

Essentially the boom switches originally turned the Booms ON/OFF and split off to go to the Raven 661 to inform it which switches are ON so that it can do the Math correctly for rate calculation. The original scheme causes problems with autoswath control since the boom switches force the boom ON and the auto system has no way of turning them off when it sees fit.

With KRK's wiring harness, the output from EZ-Boom goes to the wiring that used to be the output from the original switches. Thus the EZ-Boom can control the booms via that branch. The EZ-Boom gets flowmeter input and control valve output via the 16 Pin branch. When using EZ-Boom the output from the original switches goes to the stub cable on the left. This cable is not connected to anything for EZ-Boom operation.

If it is desirable to once again use the Raven, the stub cable on the left is plugged into a mating connector on the right and the 16 pin branch is disconnected. Now the Raven can be reinstalled and everything will work as before. The output from the original switches once again goes where it used to - it just goes through a bit more wire.

We setup lots of rigs for use with an Insight and Direct Command. The wiring harnesses that we make for them is much the same. With an Insight we generally use the original switches as the inputs to the Auxiliary Input Module and take the Boom output from the Liquid Control Module back to the Rogator wiring.

The situation may come up that the Insight is not available for some reason and it is desirable to use the Raven. With these setups, we make a jumper that goes between the cable that normally goes to the AIM and the cable that comes out of the LPCM. This jumper connects those harnesses together. Again the switches behave as original but use a bit more wire. Here again a 16 pole branch is used to go from the flowmeter/rate control connector to the LPCM to the original 16 Pin console cable in the rig.

We find it very necessary to provide for this "return to original" option. Some of the reasons are: the new device is being used at the same time elsewhere, operators who are unwilling or unable to handle the new equipment, trades, breakdowns etc. With this option we have not closed any doors behind us.
