Western-Central Lower Michigan
Another vote to ask dentist to do a crown. One and done. I have several from broken molars.
Last filling (cracked molar fix) done late fall was a "white material" thing. First one. The Dentist's daughter joined the practice, and with her "new techniques" she used the "white material". Her Mom would have done the silver looking thing.

For you guys who get a cavity under the metal filling, either the dentist didnt get all the decay out or the filling got loose and allowed a decay situation. I have had most of my early fillings (one at a time) fail that way, because the dentist just didnt go deep enough to get the decay. Also that was before the higher speed drills and there was a lot more discomfort when filling a cavity in those days.
