I agree with you. I would love to see a truly open market place with this, but don't see it happening because of the true cost of storing and maintaining the carbon. Will reduced tillage farmers retool their machinery to no-till/cover crop for $20/acre, not a chance, $100/acre annually, possibly. There are a whole bunch of "what if" scenarios that need to be answered before any wholesale changes ever happen.

A NRCS/CCC carbon bank idea is floating around out there as well. I've heard comparisons to the old PIK program.

I'm waiting for someone to integrate the buying and selling of grain, along with the attached annual carbon and water quality credits.
