Milk toast was always the first food when you were getting over the stomach flu, or if you just felt like your stomach was in distress. Mom made it on the stove, milk with sugar added, not a lot, just 'some'. Heated the milk to scald, then break up toast (usually made under the broiler in the oven or else on a skillet, never in a toaster) in a bowl and pour the hot, sweetened milk over. Now I'm hungry for it.
