They definitely make the day more enjoyable and he likes helping out. Don’t tell him he’s the “little boss” though, he’ll make sure to set you straight on that. Lol.
I used to just turn the welder up and gouge the pipe for coping it. I’ve since gone to just cutting a bevel on each side of the vertical pipe with the gas powered chop saw. It’s quicker, but it’s just a little more awkward running the saw at shoulder height. Pre coping wouldn’t work good here as most of the braces are on a side hill and the corners aren’t all square.
Are you trying to reduce the fire risk or labour? The saw throws sparks further than the torch but I find there’s less fire risk as there’s no gobs of slag flying around. We’re generally wet enough here it’s a non issue though. Takes me about 1/2 hour to cope and weld an end brace and about 40-45 minutes for a corner brace. | |
