At the CAT dealership, a fresh overhaul probably didn't even idle 10-20 minutes, before it was put on the dyno, and put under 25% of its HP rating with varying rpms, for 5-10 minutes, then upped to 50% of HP rating for another 5-10 minutes, then 75% of HP rating for 5- 10 minutes and Varying RPMs (= not steady RPMs) then finally FULL power and record HP at 1200, 1400, 1600, 1800 and 2100 rpm increments and print out results.
This is to show you, that a fresh overhaul, with plenty of airflow and monitor coolant temp, can handle getting to Full power, within an hour, to help set the rings. Don't screw around and baby the engine, for 50 hours and light load and think you are doing the "right thing".
Note: we had 36" diameter fans, blowing on radiator and engine, during dyno run. |
