Faunsdale, AL | I was a bit worried that the fast moving storm would retain enough strength to really do some structural damage this far inland.
Fredrick in 79 and Ivan in 2004 were much stronger storms at landfall but were slower moving so they arrived here at about the same strength. Both of those storms’ wind and rain lasted several times as long as Zeta, so more trees uprooted which produced more damage. I can’t remember which side of the circulation we were on with those, could have been on the right.
Looking at trees, the center of Zeta may have actually passed Northwest of us since most of the bigger trees down along the highway were pointing North. At my house the predominant wind seemed to be from the East but I wasn’t out in it! | |
