Donnellson, IA. Makes saying here easier.
For me comes down to fertility and fertilizer. Can only build soils so high in potassium so I band. Closer plants in a wider row really increases chances of the plant having nutrients instead of just feeding the whole profile. Now if margins were amazing or you had lots manure to build then I suppose narrow or ultra narrow makes sense. That could be part of the reason. That and as Deaner mentioned canopy cooling, lots plays into final yield and each year is different so its not likely one system will be the silver bullet.
