If the corn is over 60" tall, then there's a lot less difference in the available sunlight at 20" rows vs 30" rows. Compared to beans at 30" tall, there's going to be bigger difference in the cover going from 30" rows down to 15"or 20"

In the corn the difference will only show up at the stage before the canopy closes, and it will be such a short time that it would make a difference.
