Subject: RE: Making lumber

coast of Maine
In our area state tried to regulate the use of rough sawn wood(bass turds). So technically illegal in the most forested state.Guys still saw and a local guy does really well with a simple system but his dimensions are perfect. Its a cold job in winter and a hot job in summer.Ihave him saw a few thousand ft every couple years to avoid the costs at lumber yards.
It takes a special man to be a good sawyer,I would be bored to death.
as a 14 year old I took the wood and slabs off a Waltons Mt type saw mill,If you fell you would be in two pieces. The old guy who was the sawyer drank whiskey like coffee,
Plenty of big straight white pine here still. One off the farm had sawn ,got 2000 brd ft one tree.not like out west but still very nice wood.
