That 22 gpm figure needs to be on a suction side application too....

You might want to contact the pump manufacturer and ask for what they recommend for a filter rating for the inlet of the pump.
I would think a 100 mesh screen would be sufficient.

The whole house type filters with a string type or carbon element wouldn't very likely be able to flow enough in a suction situation unless they were huge or there were multiple units in parallel.
