Leesburg, Ohio | That is why we no longer apply all of our N up front on the surface. Years ago, it was common practice here to apply 60 gallons at planting, period.
Usually there is enough moisture/rainfall in planting season to get the initial application in the ground, and using only 15-20 gallons is that much less to "move" somewhere un-intended.
By side-dressing the bulk of our N, we are applying it close to the time the plant needs it, and putting it in the ground so it will not move off-site as easily. | |
