S.E. Washington | There is no pleasing the people in charge of some of these protected areas. The unit my friend works for was fined hundreds of thousands of dollars for destroying a strip of protected habitat with dozers, while saving three quarters of the area.
Alright, next time it will be left to burn across it and put it out on the other side. Nope, you have to fight the fire......with water buckets on a helicopter. Very expensive and not very effective trying to stop a wildfire with one 1,500 gallon drop at a time.....
And so the fires will burn through protected areas with only a splash of water to offer token resistance, as that's all that's allowed.
So we have land management policies that set up conditions for wildfires, and then leave no good options to stop the wildfires. So the land burns.
