You want to be careful with the opiate derivatives. Have a friend that has serious back problems that became addicted. Quite a process to get off it. He would have withdrawal symptoms every time he quit taking it. Shakes, etc. As I understand it some people are more susceptible to addiction than others. All will eventually become addicted if they take it long enough.

It also gets less effective over time. The dosage has to be upped to get the same benefit after it has been used for a while.
