Subject: RE: does strip till count??

ncia
I have one strip till farm it has been strip tilled since about 2013. It is a lighter soil type than all of the others i farm and before striptill , it was ALWAYS my lowest yielding farm. Im not sure if it is strip til, but yields are very similar to my other farms, now. Most of what i farm is still full width tillage.

I have and continue to experiment with cover crops, but (my observation) is that because of our northern location we get almost no fall growth and not alot of spring growth before it has to be terminated for next crop(seems like our last 10 years springs are cold until after we plant). Many times we "winter in" before we can get it seeded. I have used an airplane, but that just seems expensive and inefficient. Central iowa and very northern iowa are like 2 different climates. what works there wont consistently work here.
