Sometimes it depends on the parents / patients too. If the parents just accept the long wait time and don’t push a bit for a quicker appointment they are just added onto the end of the list and forgotten about until their name comes up. Sometimes all a person has to do is ask if a different specialist is available sooner. Doctors all have their go-to favorite specialist and often don’t bother to try to get you to any other specialist unless you specifically ask. It is also a good idea to ask to be on the “short notice” list to fill a spot that was cancelled. Neither of these things guarantee faster treatment but they can often make a very significant difference in wait time.

I've seen a couple of people that had an appointment and decided at the last minute to cancel and one died of his heart and the other is waiting for his kidney problem.
I said to them that if you think it's not important to go , then they put you on the bottom of the list and hope you're still around when you finally get another appointment.
There's a children's hospital in Ottawa and Toronto and they were still taking patient's all along. Just make a phone call and get them in. |
