I did some digging at the time. They had sprouted and grew about half way to the surface. The soil didn’t seem like there was a crust. Chalk it up to a weird year.

One of two things is going to happen to those beans that are still down 3/4”. They’re either going to push their way through or they’re going to break their necks and die. A Rotary hoe will prevent the second scenario if you don’t wait too long
