In the general scheme of things, I don't think its going to make much difference if you use any type of vapor barrier. You're not in a super cold climate, and it is in a garage which helps to moderate the temperature. One issue a plastic vapor barrier would help with is carbon monoxide infiltration. Might want to check and see what the building code requires. Might have to seal all the electrical boxes and penetrations from the garage into the house.
