Subject: 4440 Seized engine... reman vs overhaul

NW IL
Just as we are trying to get ground worked to plant before the next round of rain the 4440 seizes up.

We haven't dug into it to see how bad things are, but the thinking is, if we have it apart, why not do a whole rebuild? It's around 12400 hours, engine hasn't been touched yet.

Just some quick looking shows that a reman engine costs about the same as rebuilding the engine. If we had the time we could probably rebuild it ourselves and save the cost of labor, but time is scarce this time of year and we need the tractor going sooner rather than later.

Thoughts? Reman engine vs overhaul?

My brother was throwing around the idea of throwing in a 466 engine from a combine, but it appears that it's not a simple swap...
