Subject: hormones vs calories

Pittsburg, Kansas

The problem with calorie restriction diets is they work for a short period and some weight is lost, but then body metabolism drops to a lower level and it takes even more calorie restriction to an even lower level to continue the weight loss results. In the mean time the lower metabolism lowers body temperature and energy levels drop and a person feels hungry, hangry and feels like crap.

That is the difference between looking at weight loss as a calorie issue rather than a hormone issue. Lower insulin and you do not have to reduce calories. Any calorie reduction that comes will come naturally via satiety and not feeling the need to eat. Carbs raise insulin. Cut out the carbs and insulin lowers, glucagon raises, the hunger created by ghrelin response eases, and a person loses weight easily instead of hard. Hormones play a huge role, often not taken into account by the "calories in, calories out" way of looking at diet.

At least that is the way I see it. A lot of people see it otherwise.
