I just have to brag a bit. I have a Stihl 031AV that I bought new in the fall of 1977. It has been sitting on the shelf or close to 10 years. Got it out last Thursday, poured all the old gas out of it, and put in fresh (I always use treated gas, either Sta-bil or Star Tron - the blue stuff, for what that's worth). Pulled the starter cord a few times. Didn't start. Checked the plug. Good spark. Shot one squirt of starter fluid in it (I know, not supposed to use that on a two cycle). Started on the third pull. I then used it to do some trimming on a down tree. I did have to run it for awhile before it really smoothed out and ran as it should but for a 43 year old saw that ain't bad. I did have the ignition replaced with an electronic ignition about 20 years ago, so that might have helped.
