Northern Ohio | My advice is to find a niche crop that takes more management, more work and pays much better. Then out bid the competition. You can even rent ground from existing farmers for specialty crops, if you can pay enough. Pumpkins come too mind. Some farmers will rent their wheat ground for double cropping, DC sunflowers after wheat, DC buckwheat after wheat. There seems to be room for custom manure application in NW OH. I know a young guy that is dong custom strip tillage. | |
