| My son is Type I diabetic. On occasions when his blood sugar has been high too long, the body develops ketones having to burn muscle instead of carbs because no insulin traps the sugar in the blood, and can make him very sick and eventually lead to coma or death.
To eliminate the ketones you either pee them out (why untreated diabetics are thirsty and pee so much) or exhale some which makes breath smell similar to juicy fruit gum. I have no idea if a keto diet produces similar results, but rapid weight loss is another sign of Type I, along with thirst and peeing excessively. | |
