SW Wisconsin | You’re right that’s the way it should work, but they’ve changed policies after the fact before. If they don’t, well, sucks to be me, I’ll figure it out. Like I said above, I think we’ll be looking at milk in the $20 range by July, and insurance will be a moot point. It doesn’t work as well for me as it could anyway, because the low contract in the next year is May. I milk seasonally, so I’ll be shipping around 70,000 lbs of milk in May, roughly 65,000 in June, and a total of about 400,000 for the year. Plus coverage is based on several years back, when my dad was running the farm and had half as many cows producing 2/3 the milk per cow that I do now. I think I would get coverage for about 25,000 lbs of milk in May, the remaining 45,000 wouldn’t be covered. | |
