In all seriousness here, what we "small farmers" need is several small federally inspected lockers to open. The local-know your food movement is huge and should only get bigger. I don't know how many animals you have to put through a plant to pay the overhead and inspectors, but small plants could be a big winner if the right person is marketing the meat coming out of it. Think Berkshire pork, wagyu beef, free range poultry, and everything in-between . Give the consumers what they want-a safe product with a story.



I’ve heard becoming federally inspected is about an impossible process and can take years to get nowhere, then years more to maybe get approved. I like the idea tho, really do. If A guy could run a 10hd/week operation there would be zero trouble staying filled up around here.
