West central missouri | The article in Grass and Grain touches on the real reason for the opposition. As a local, the opposition to Valley Oaks was too well funded and organized to be just a group of nuts. The true organizers of the opposition will never be known. In my estimation the opposition spent at least $100k just for the one DNR public hearing. In my opinion, also, the true reason to crush Valley Oaks was the packing plant, not the feedyard which had absolutely no environmental footprint. There is currently a much larger hog CAFO going in less than 25 miles away and not a peep. Powell Gardens has been having a serious human sewage problem they have been hiding for years, but the Lone Jack Neighbors group ignores that. All the way thru, local beef producers lost an opportunity to add value to our product. | |
