Ripley, Ontario Canada | The packing plant is the easy part. Had one start in Ontario about 15 yrs ago when we had the worst of BSE. Couldn't make a go of it. Was hard to buy cattle and even harder to move meat.
If an idea like this is ever going to work you need to plan on running at a big loss for 3-5 years, have locked in cattle supply, so when the big packers try to buy off your incoming cattle with premiums to break you, you still have cattle. And the biggest part, you need some anti trust help to make sure the established packers don't collude with the retail industry to lock you out of the market for beef. You solve those two parts the packing plant is easy. It is an election year for you, now or never..... | |
