Have done it early and now planting green, then kill, this is working excellent. Yes I feel a must have is N on the planter. I run 10 gals/ac of 28 and apply 125 lbs/ac of dry AMS along with P&K if needed as close to planting as possible. Planting green sure plants nice, but rye that is pollinating is no fun at all. I have had excellent luck planting green, but also been doing it when ground is warm.
