With the older Phanotm series of drones, updating was just, frankly, a nightmare. Very early in the series they came out with an update that didn’t work. It took a couple months before they fixed it, leaving those with a dead machine until they got around to it. They were ‘busy’ with a different project and didn’t have any manpower allocated to fix their bug.

They are a very Chinese thinking company......

Typically not that bad tho.

Anyhow, updating the Phantom series, you had to update all the different parts and that was separate operations. If your app updated, you needed to also update the drone by downloading a patch to the memory card, then turning on the drone in the right sequence with the card and waiting several minutes.

It was ‘awkward’ to do these updates, and you never knew if a bug was still there or if you were getting all pieces in the right versions, and then at that time they were adding many many flight restrictions.

So most of us learned to find a software combination that flew and worked and the. Turned off and avoided any software updates to avoid problems or downgrades.

I don’t know how the Mavic series does updates, so it is likely all different now. Just saying how it was and why you hear some of us cringe when we hear your app updated..... with a Phantom series that would mean your drone likely won’t fly until you also update the drone itself.
