Ridgway, IL | Bob for your location I believe you would be thrilled with the value of rice hulls. They are extremely absorbent bedding, and readily available out of rice processors in Arkansas.
You could start stock piling them now if you have a dry place to keep them. I think 1 ton of rice hulls does the job of 1.5 ton straw.
Extremely bulky though, need to find someone with a high cube walking floor trailer to haul. On a 68 yard belt trailer we have got 9-10 ton on. On a 145 yard walking floor 19-21
