Subject: RE: bedding for barns

SC Wisconsin
I recently starting using sawdust from a local sawmill for bedding. I try to alternate between stalks, junk hay, straw and sawdust. Ome thing i have learned is to spread it real thin when you are bedding with it. A little bit goes a long way if it is good dry sawdust. I think it will add organic matter but like ststed above it takes alot of N to break it down. The cattle seem to stay alot cleaner on sawdust than on other bedding materials, and it seems like the flies dont bother as much either
