East central Iowa | We were doing some remolding and both Lowes and Menards were offering rebates on their products.
My wife bought a bunch of tile for the shower at Lowes and the checkout clerk made a big deal about their having rebates. She gave us a paper and told us what to do to get the rebate. Menards had a big sign outside and their receipt had a rebate receipt attached to the store receipt.
Lowes let you go online and fill in the information, no mail in required.
Menards requires you to fill out a form online, print it out and mail it along with the rebate receipt. (you can pick up a form at the store and fill it out but my writing is illegible so I opt for online)
Both rebates came within a day of each other. We were surprised at the amount of the Lowe's rebate. For our several hundred dollars we received a Lowe's gift card worth about $8. For the roughly $600 at Menarads we received a store credit of $66.
It turns out that Lowe's gives a rebate on very little. No wall tile, no floor material, no major appliances, no clearance, no customer special order, no gift cards, no cabinetry, no Weber products, no service/installation and no delivery.
Menards excludes nothing that I know of.
So, Lowe's is kind of the Younker's of home improvement.
Younker's used to have huge discounts but not on anything people bought. |
