Subject: RE: Thinking fall tillage of cornstalks.

Winkler, Manitoba Canada
We have slowly been changing our plan for dealing with cornstalks. For many years we have harvested with a JD693 cornhead followed by a pass with a Alloway stalk chopper. Tillage would then usually consist of a pass with a Sunflower disk and a pass with a chisel plow usually pulling a coil packer on both passes to break up root balls. This is important to us as we rotate to edible beans and still do the cut and windrow for harvest and want the stalks and root balls minimized by harvest.

For 2019 we have swapped to a Geringhoff rotatdisc so will dispense with the pass with the stalk chopper. We intend to chisel plow with our New Holland ST830 pulling the packer and see whether or not we will bother with the Sunflower or not. Some of this years edibles are on ground that got worked once last fall with the chisel plow and was worked twice with our medium Flexicoil 820 cultivator (9"spacing shanks) to incorporate Edge.

Pic is of our second pass with the disc last fall where we got that done. First pass was the New Holland ST830.
